6 to 8 feet is best. It typically has a single face that is higher on one end than the other. All of them make a good choice for your garden shed. A skillion roof is made up of a single flat plane which slopes gradually from top to bottom.

Depending on where your shed is located the higher end can be fastened to the side of another building such as your house or garage. Set 4 by 4 inch posts at each end of the shed and as far out as you want the lean to to extend.
