If you don t it s sometimes hard to determine where you should make a switch. This is often the case if the rest of the trim in the house is off white or if the counters or flooring in the kitchen are on the warm side of the color spectrum. But it can be a lot easier and definitely less expensive to just paint the walls the same white or cream colour as the trim. I believe the trim in the kitchen should match the trim in the rest of the house since i believe the permanent features of the house trims interior doors etc should have continuity.

I totally agree with the white on white beautiful. Going with the same or similar color as the walls on the perimeter cabinets can make the kitchen look larger and the island stand out if it is contrasting. Instead of painting the trim the same as the walls you could consider a color that would compliment other finishes in your kitchen even something darker so that you notice the view out the window not the window trim but if you have a lot of trim and light walls it could look like you are outlining the room in the trim. It isn t that the cabinets and trim shouldn t match but that they don t have to.
